For the final webinar of the COVID19 Humanitarian series, Professor Paul Spiegel from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and select panelists discussed some of the lessons learned from the field that have been shared on the www.covid19humanitarian.com website, with a focus on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and triage.

Moderator: Paul Spiegel is a Professor of the Practice at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Director of the Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health.

Presenters:

  • Alex Odlum, Research Coordinator, Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies: Mr. Odlum is a research coordinator at the Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies, where he works on the COVID-19 Humanitarian platform and the Humanitarian Encyclopedia project – a collaborative, online platform to co-produce and apply knowledge to guide future humanitarian response.
  • Neha Singh, Co-Director & Assistant Professor, Health in Humanitarian Crises Centre, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK: Dr. Singh is the co-director of the Health in Humanitarian Crises Centre and Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is a health policy and systems researcher with a focus on improving health service organization and delivery for women, children, and adolescents in humanitarian settings.
  • Ghida Anani, Founder & Director, ABAAD, Lebanon: Dr. Anani is the founder & director of ABAAD-Resource Center for Gender Equality in Lebanon, as well as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Public Health at the Lebanese University. She leads a dynamic team comprising of more than 140 female and male human activists, lawyers, consultants, social workers and researchers, dedicated towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.
  • Chiara Altare, Assistant Scientist, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health: Dr. Altare’s work at the Center for Humanitarian Health focuses on measurement methods for complex settings, infectious disease, monitoring and evaluation in outbreak responses, and health service provision in conflict-affected settings.
  • Marie Petry, Head of Department Health and Nutrition, Action contre la Faim, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo: Ms. Petry has worked in DRC since early 2019, first managing IPC programs in North Kivu for Medair within the Ebola response, and then as head of the health and nutrition department of ACF, covering both Kinshasa, Eastern Congo and emergency responses in all provinces. She previously ran emergency health and nutrition programs in numerous African and Asian countries.
